Michigan Harper's breath came out in little puffs of silver mist as she hurried along the streets of Manhattan, trying not to hit anyone as she half-jogged, half-walked down it. She was, of course, going to be late for work as she always was. But this time she was actually /trying/ to get to work before Lucas decided to open up those doors and flip over the dreaded 'closed' sign. Because, this time, Lucas had threatened her job, and she could /not/ have that threatened. Not when she wanted that sweet, apple red PT Cruiser that awaited her in the garage. Her mother and father having bought it just in case the dealership ran out before Michigan could save up enough money (gosh, that makes her feel good). "Watch it, sister!" Yelled a teenaged girl, about sixteen, right as their shoulders connected. Michigan frown and apologized furiously, but did not stop to help the girl up. She couldn't afford the time. She /did/ have enough time to look back and see the girl give her the finger with a kind of scary grimace on her face, causing Michigan to shiver, just a little. "Michigan!"
Michi flipped to look forward and saw Lucas outside his small coffee shoppe's door, a frown on his pale face. Michigan had to stop from sprinting as she hurried to get to him, her light brown hair whipping a few disgruntled people in the face. Every time they cried out, she gave a soft sorry. After a while of this, she finally reached Lucas' towering figure with a small smile placed on her face. "I'm here. You didn't flip the sign yet." She said, pointing over to the sign by the coffee shoppe's door. It was still flipped over on the 'closed' side. Lucas couldn't help but smile. "Alright." He said, unlocking the coffee shoppe's glass door so Michigan could step into the comfortingly warm business. "I need you here, anyway. I have to go to a Dentist's office and get a filling, so, you'll be manning the shoppe for a couple hours." He said, handing over a large loop with a few keys on it, causing Michigan's smile to broaden. "Okay, I'll make sure nothing bad happens." She said, slipping the keys into her pocket for safekeeping. Lucas raised his eyebrows and Michigan sighed. "Scout's honour." She said, doing that little salute thingy she had once seen a Cub Scout do. This caused even normally serious Lucas to laugh. "Alright. I guess I can leave now... Remember, the Regulars will be getting here soon so have everything cleaned up and stuff. The other employees should be coming. But a lot of them said that they weren't coming, so, you /might/ be the only one here." He said, patting Michigan's shoulder with his large hand before turning his back on her and stepping back outside where he disappeared into the crowd. Michigan sighed when he was gone and turned to look at the shoppe. It looked clean and cozy already, the twelve small tables all arranged near each other each with a small white rose sitting in the middle and the wood covered by a dark green table skirt. The bar was sparkling, it's silver surface having been cleaned by Lucas last night, and the fireplace had been lit, giving the place a warm glow. This had always been Michigan's favorite place, even before she was working here. Michigan slid off the black coat she was wearing set it on the coat and hat rack that stood by the door, revealing a pair of ratty blue jeans and an old 'Beatles' shirt that was slightly worn. She tied up her light brown hair in a sloppy ponytail, and then grabbed a dark green apron that was hanging by her coat, quickly tying it on. After that was done, she flipped the open/closed sign to the 'open' part and smiled, walking over behind the bar with her elbows on the counter and her pale face in her hands. Now all she had to do was wait for the Regulars and whoever else decided to stop by the small shoppe named Lucas's Coffee Cafe.
